I was into bike riding big time about 15 years ago. I did the Tecate/Ensenada ride a bunch of times. Kids, family, and seeing a bike rider hit by a car and dragged 300 feet kinda ended my bike riding days. I got the urge to ride the Rosarito/Ensenada bike ride several months ago at the age of 52. I went out and bought a bike and started to make plans for the stay over. The bike is sitting on my patio I haven't got on it once. (Kids keep asking when I am gonna get on it?) And now I think I might be back east at that time anyways.

I hard of some robberies after the baja 1000 last year a semi towing a trophy truck was stolen the day after race in Cabo in front to the racers's hotel. Also a driver feel asleep at the wheel driving back to SD last year and was killed when his car when off the road. I believe there was also 2 robbieries of drivers of the race last year in Tijuana...

How was it? I just got a new bike and started riding more often, I'm too out of shape now, but I've set a fitness goal of riding in this next year if they have one in April.

It was good! A lot of fun. As far as I know, they are planning one in April. You cannot be as out of shape as some of the people I saw on this ride.

According to the organizers there were 4,000 riders, US participants up 68% and Mexican participants up 28% from the previous ride. I also read a news report that it was 5,000, but maybe that included more than riders. That seems like a good sign for the ride being continued. I'm doing it in April.

Figured I'd bump this as it is now two months out, just enough time to register and get in some training before the ride if you were thinking about it.

I'm doing spin class during the week and rides on the weekend, so far I'm up to 31 mile rides, but I should be able to add some mileage before April. It will be my first organized ride... actually my first organized "anything" physical.

The event is Saturday April 17, here's the site for more info:
http://www.rosaritoensenada.org/

Be cool to meet some board members there, or drop me a line if you want to ride some weekend with my chunky butt. I usually ride in El Cajon.

Cheers,
-Smithy
