I read that the average factory worker in Tijuana earns around$80-$100 per week.

Well i don't drink cokes and hardly big macs.I like to watch my diet, alot of fruits, vegetables etc

My fiancee was working in a factory for awhile as a NURSE full time and he was only earning 1500 pesos every two weeks. Thats not even $300/month. Thank God he finally got out of that job and is now working at a hospital. A nurse earns 5000 pesos every two weeks in a hospital but jobs are scarce. So with a degree you might make max $1000 a month if you can even find the job to make the money at. When the US economy is down... the TJ economy is even worse.

Most folks with SSI checks should be able to live in TJ "comfortably" without needing to work.
This is generally true unless like one of my previous neighbors, you've a bunch of addictions.
He was still able to last about 5 years.

Just HAVE to put my $.02 in on this one...

http://en.wikipedia....i/Pontiac_Aztek

I would gladly drive a rusted 2CV before this glorious hunk of crap. If you are reading this and you happen to own one, the Aztek is quite an astounding piece of engineering that only truly unique people could come to appreciate. I certainly do not mean to slight your stupid little car.

laugh.gif

I kid of course, but damn, that's an ugly car without any real excuse for it. At least the 2CV has some historical attributes.

Like your sarcastic sense of Yuma.

I would have to move to US? 2 yrs? Shit! That ain't gonna' happen! Why can't we just get maried here???

You can get married there, but you will have to prove your marriage is bona fide. Bank statements, phone statements and proof that this is a realy relationship.

That depends on how you want to live. If you insist on a gated community in one of the better neighborhoods, eat exactly the same food you did north of the border and go out a lot, probably at least $2500 USD per month. If you are willing to live in an average, middle class neighborhood, shop at Calimax for your groceries and watch your expenses you can easily get by on $800 USD per month. I know of a couple guys who do it on $500 USD a month and one of them tells me that includes putting away $100 into savings. It really depends on you and your limitations / comfort zone.

Got to chime in here as well. I've never been "rich," so I really have no frame of reference. However, I do quite well down here - much better than I could do in the US - on my "guaranteed/limited" income. I've always been a thrift shop freak and the swap meets are heaven for me. Plus, I'm still working off a 100 peso tank of gas I got on March 13! And, I can have paper towels, kleenex, and toilet paper at the same time! Now, that's rich for me! rolleyes.gif

100 pesos on March 13th? That was five months ago!

I'd be more concerned that maybe that gas might turn into lacquer in the hoses if you don't drive that thing soon!!!

100 pesos of propane since March? Does that feed your hot water heater? Do you only use a microwave to cook with or do you have an electric stove???

My propane tank lasts 6 - 9 months. I just use the pilot light in the water heater to keep the water warm. No need to cook food since the streets are filled with people cooking food.

Mine last 4-6 weeks, but there are 5 of us living here, so I think we're doing pretty well.

The gas is only for cooking; my hot water is included in rent. But, I do use the stove just about every day - and I do bake. I've been here over a year and that tank I got in March was only the third re-fill. I continue to be amazed - gas for cooking in the states used to run me about $20-30 a month.

I refill every 8 weeks, but I never let it real low. I figure it cost about 10.00 USD a month.
