That is why I threw the line in there about Mexico needing to avoid becoming a pawn of the CFR elites. I am just as disgusted with American foreign policy as the next guy. My pat on the back went to the State of Alaska, not the Bush Administration (I never voted for Bush and went third party both times.).

Mexico's problem is that the bulk of the population is still waiting for the government to "do something for them", when they should demand a removal of the special privileges that a few companies get via concessions and tax breaks. Has anybody here seen the HUGE amount of red tape it takes to start most any type of business. Their tax code makes the IRS look tame.

In my opinion < Note disclaimer to the left please....no flame wars. ---- Less government is needed here, not more. The more the government here does something to fix a problem, the worse things seem to get. Heck the labor laws here are a worker's utopia on paper, until you realize that they incentivize union and patronal corruption along with disincentives to productivity. ....and the US is finding itself in the same cesspool of bandaids that overlap eachother.

But I am not a Mexican Citizen yet, so it isn't for me to decide. I am concentrating on the US elections.

The price of oil has gone up from $25 to $100 a barrel and some morons still think this guy is doing a good job.

People are screaming about the $18 billion that illegal immigrants supposedly cost us a year but don't even notice the fact that we are pouring 20 times that amount into a war in a region that will go back to exactly where it was before or worse the day we leave.

Please don't take this personally, but sometimes by our frequent laughing & referring to the president as the village idiot, imbecile, being on prozac, etc., etc., it often disempowers us by reducing our own understanding of what "our leaders" are really up to.

On one hand I agree with all those types of descriptions. On the other hand, I'm wishing I had bought stocks in oil, pharmaceuticals, weapons industries, and whatever other investments the Bush Admin's policies are designed to rake in the billions for (war profiteering or otherwise).

Bush I & II, Reagan, & even Clinton are serious hero's to a class of folks we rarely rub shoulders with. It isn't easy selling corporate policy interests to millions upon millions of working class peoples (poor and middle class). That task is made more easy by controlling most everything, esp. the information sources. There is a class of people who have only wanted one thing, and that's everything. Their PR people (aka most of our political leaders) usually are not stupid, nor are they geniuses. They just have enormous power & control to prevent the working majority from ever being able to drag them to justice.

Winning wars I believe is not always what policy making is about. Winning billion dollar contracts (by now, maybe trillions) for the friends, family, and contributers of the politicians is what makes waaay more sense to me. Also the weakening of democratic institutions & dumbing down the public (by any which way) works hand in glove to siphon the planet's wealth into the fat pockets of the very few.

General Smedly Butler's writings that "war is a racket" is almost legenday. Even Eisenhower warned of "the military industrial complex" and their ability to corrupt the democratic process. These guys were no sissies, nor were they so-called peaceniks or "tree-hugging" liberals.

But then who am I and . . .. . ahem, what do I know ? :wink:

Slightly related comment: The current situation has actually taken funds away from weapons industries research and development and put it into restocking currently used weaponry and financing the logistics of war. This has financially hurt quite a few people in the the research areas. I hate George W.

I don't know if I can hate GW. He just seems like a fun party animal kind of guy in the wrong job.
I might choose to point my frustration more towards my cowed, complacent, and brainwashed compatriots, our corporate & oilygarchic system
(which engineers our political cesspool), and it's compliant media. :cry:

Just heard on the news that the average price of gasoline today in San Diego has surpassed $3.40 a gallon and $4.20 a gallon in San Francisco.

I love Pemex - they're saving me about $200 a month right now...

How much is Pemex now?

Yesterday the ARCO station outside the Otay crossing was $3.33 a gallon. That's the cheapest gas station I know of in SD county. Other places are over $3.50 a gallon.

A friend told me that he was in El Cajon today and saw a station with regular at $3.89 a gallon.

Google Map's Gas Buddy shows most SF gas between 3.40 & 3.80 with possibly a couple around trying make a statement of some sort. In years past, SD & LA were always considerably cheaper than the SF-Oakland areas. This definitely isn't the case anymore. . .. .

Yes, Pemex prices certainly has us something to be happy about. One can also do what my buddy does in SF: he bought a old cheap Mercedes diesel
and has been running it for years on discarded restaurant grease. His exhaust smell like yummm ... french -- or must I still say freedom fries.

What has really peaked my interest lately are "aircars".
Has anyone heard about the new cars being manufactured for India's consumers.
They operate by compressed air ? I wonder if there is any way to corner that market. :idea:

I hadn't heard about the "aircars" but my guess is that they are borrowing some of the hybrids energy generation technologies to compress the air.

I thought the difference in price was very high between San Diego and San Francisco but I heard it in 2 separate radio news reports today while in San Diego on KGO600 AM.

Oh my, I thought we are paying too much here in Colorado but it is much cheaper than San Diego. Yesterday I fill my gas tank at $2.97 per gallon. My sister told me that in Tijuana it is about $2.70 per gallon. Because so much difference in price do many people cross the border to fill up there gas tank? I put almost 32 gallons in my Suburban and it will cost me more than $20 more to fill up in San Diego than in Tijuana. That is too much!

Yea, in California we pay more for gas than the rest of the nation in general. I have to make a trip up to San Francisco in a couple of weeks and I am seriously thinking that I will just fly. As much as I hate the whole hassle around screening that makes the entire flight almost as long as driving on short distances it must be a serious cost savings when compared to gas/driving at this point...

I had to fill up in LA a few days ago - a 22 gallon tank and it cost me over $90 to fill. I sure am glad that we are spending all this money in Iraq to keep the oil market stable, to say nothing of those who have given their lives and limbs. I looked at your link Scooby and it reminded me of when I was down in Venezuela working in 1999 / 2000. Gasoline was so cheap I remembered filling the Jeep I drove with the change I would get at the grocery store. Looks like it is still just as cheap...

Can't remember a good conversion formula for this stuff... 3.79 / mc2

I read somewhere else that Turkmenistan may have even Hugolandia beat for cheaper gas.

7.50 Pesos X 3.785 = 28.39 Pesos / Gallon

Where I filled up today the exchange rate was 10.30

28.39 / 10.30 = $2.76 / Gallon

Anyone know the current diesel costs? I know a lot of truckers who ask me all the time about the costs down there. With diesel quickly approaching 5.20 a gallon its hard to make money when gas is your biggest expense.
