When you are walking down the street and see the two front-running gubernatorial campaigns cross paths while soliciting.

A group of people dressed in red were knocking on doors for Jorge Hank Rhon, PRI; and a pickup truck with a loud speaker was driving by blaring information about José Guadalupe Osuna Millán, PAN.

This isn´t necessarily a "Good Tijuana Moment™, but its comical!

HAA, my goodness, the political propaganda is out of control since three weeks ago. I MUST VOTE FOR JORGE, BUT I DON"T KNOW WHICH ONE.

Last week I saw Jorge Astiazaran ,PRI, with his red shirts, mostly young people. They were at the line during peak morning hours passing out his "receta" for Tijuana. His game is "This city needs a Dr, not a politician".

When you head to the farmacy with a few prescription medications on a list (for pneumonia) and the total bill is $15 dollars!

When your bill comes out to 670 Pesos and you give the waiter eighty dollars and he comes back with forty dollars and change

Not everyone is out to get us for money. Most aren't.

Once I exchanged dollars for pesos at Banco Azteca for my rent and deposit because many will take the dollar at 10-1 instead of 10.80-1. The total exchanged was 400 dollars. I looked at the receipt before signing and saw that only 300 dollars was noted and I was given something on the lines of 3,240 pesos.

After calmly and politely explaining the bills I gave her. She checked what was in the drawer and then looked embarassed...appologized and made another transaction for 100 dollars.

Having worked in retail, I have made honest mistakes like that before, and I am glad I didn't lose a gasket and kept cool while when this happened.

Since I've been looking for work and until the money started coming in, I've had very little to spare for tips, but typically stop at the same Pemex as I head out of the Playas only to afford a gallon to get to the parking lot and back with a few miles to go left over. The same attendant has been putting my gas in and I tell him I have poquito dinero for a tip "no trabajo". Today, I had a handful of small change and felt he was due a tip just because and called him over and handed him the money. He turned me down and I had to ask him to please take the money because I had "nueva trabaja" or something like that.

A good moment:

Running into people you know in random places in Tijuana. It happened to me twice this weekend - one was a fellow TJ blogger, and the other was a local Mexican girl.

It makes me feel like I'm a local myself and that I belong to the community, instead of feeling like a visitor.

Your pet gets sick....you walk one block to the veteranarian and pay 6 dollars for the consult and 8 dollars for the injection.

I've been going to TJ for maybe 40 years and it never happened to me.

I think that a lot of that has to do with what parts of Tijuana you visit. Panhandling is rampant in the tourist areas and border crossings. Other areas is less obvious of a problem - I travel into Tijuana in the areas of Zona Rio / Sanchez Taboada almost daily and rarely am I asked for money. Maybe you ought to think of visiting some different areas of Tijuana next time. Just a thought...

Most areas I've been in I get asked but ALWAYS at the border crossing.

Well, that's true. No way of getting around it at the border. I guess I look at it like the traffic light at the corner of Palm Avenue and Saturn Blvd which is where I go to do my banking in the US. In my years of trips to the bank once or twice a week there is always a group of alcoholics/meth addicts out there taking turns walking up and down the median asking for money with a different sign each week. The guy I saw a few months ago with a crutch, army fatigues and a sign saying he was a disabled veteran is now wearing a hawaiian shirt, straw hat and carrying a sign asking straight out for a couple of bucks for a beer...

One very hot day last summer my wife and I were on our way back from her Tia's. On this road we must have been hit up at least 6 times within a one mile stretch and my patience was zero . Also had a male fool in a rice rocket riding my ass for the past 1/2 mile and could see another pan handler just ahead.

When he came up to ask for $ I looked for my wallet and came up with a surprised look on my face. I asked my wife to inform this individual that I forgot to get my wallet back from my brother in law who was in the car behind us and if he would go back and tell my brother in law that I said it was okay for my brother I L to give him $ 5.00 USD.

The guy smiled and walk to the rice rocket jockey ; I could hear them screaming obsenities at each other as we drove away. Geez, I hadn't laugh that hard in a long time, got both of them
