The gf and I were bored and since she was hungry and I didn't feel like going far, so we headed to Sushi Tei (Paseo de los Heros, next to La Fogata, near entrance to the border) on Sunday. Very impressed with the interior and service. Not a lot of people yet but food was VERY good. I really liked it, on par with Aki Sushi in my opinion. Had a lot of other dishes so it's not just a sushi bar but a japenese restuarant as well. Usually these places aren't as good as the pure sushi bars but this place gets a 3 out of 4 stars from me, at least in TJ. Good Japanese Fusion food.

Also has Shabu Shabu if people are interested. Ordered a nice sushi bowl, two rolls, and two different type of sushi, total for 2, $33 dollars, $38 plus tip. Not bad.

George, it's also a Japanese restaurant so there's quite a bit of cooked food there as well. If you're going for a treat I recomment the Shabu Shabu at $40 I believe. But I forgot what's it's called but they have a rice dish with fake crab meat, philly cream cheese, some sweet soy sauce and sesame seeds that were pretty good. She can also just go for the Udon. The menu also has a lot of pictures and has english translation. I think the owners are Chinese not Japanese though.

Just to add to the rave reviews.

My amiga took me there on Friday, she likes sweets and had the banana roll and I had the california roll. It was some of the best sushi I've ever had! The bill with tea and a coke was less than $20.

The service was good and as noted the interior is quite nice. Not too many people there, if this place was in Hillcrest it would be packed.

Cheers,
-Smithy

Went last Friday night and my girlfriend scored - she had the breaded fish (pescado empanizado) and WOW. VERY TASTY. Not like any of the breaded fish you'd find at Los Arcos or other Mexican seafood places. I highly recommended it. Also comes with a nice sauce.

I had some beef dish that was ok and probably would have been better had not have to compete with the pescado empanizado. Definitely douse it with some teriyaki sauce to add some bling.

Also note the 6-piece sushi special - any 6 pieces and you get a California roll.

I've had this happen to me a few times before too.

I usually tell my gf that if she loved me, she would trade plates with me. She'll give me a bite of her food but in the end I'm still stuck with the crap I ordered. Damn women don't care about their men and more importantly our stomachs.

I find that many seafood places have weak meat dishes.

I remember hitting La Costa about 5 years back and the meat dish I bought was about a third of the size of everyone elses dish sad.gif
