Do you always need this to rent? I don't even know anyone who lives there, except my sister in law and she does not own a house or anything. Will they always ask for this? How about if your husband is a mexican national? I have a job and can prove that I work and can afford to pay the rent>

This is a very common problem with renting in Mexico especially highly transient cities like Tijuana.

It is ridiculous to me for someone to need to put real estate as a gaurantee to rent real estate.

The best thing to do is keep looking.

I have a million dollar home I am leasing in Tijuana and I only paid first month and a deposit equal to one month's rent to move in. Actually I only gave $500 and then followed up with a couple payments within the first 30 days to get paid in full while we were working out the details of the lease. I got possession of the house immediately upon the payment of the first $500

Million Dollar home?...for $500? that seems pretty questionable...where is it located? I don't know of many homes that are 5-6 bedroom or that area that are getting rented for 500.....I'd think that would be a lot to furnish as well...

That's a steal! I met someone recently in TJ and his family had some businesses on Revo that closed down. They are in the process of selling their home off of Agua Caliente and they listed it at 1 million dollars but had no takers. The house had close to 8 bedrooms with multiple family rooms and a guest house. When you go on their patio you can see one of thier neighbors homes that has a tennis court on its roof!

I saw many homes for rent in this area and he told me that the fear of kidnappings had taken a toll for many families in this area and that some moved to San Diego to avoid problems.

It is located in Zona Centro.

What is questionable?

It has been hell to furnish the 6 bedrooms and 7 baths 2 living rooms and a den but it has been exciting and fun. And we are not finished furnishing and decorating so if you have any extra furniture laying around you know where to drop it off!

And I didn't say my payment was $500 I said I got in with an initial payment of $500. My total move-in was actually $2,000 and my monthly payment is $1,000

I think the 3rd eye plays a lot in the game.

My place is about 800 Sq Ft. $450 a month and $25 under the table to open my mail and carry cash to pay cable, take out the trash, pay the electric and water... I consider $25 a month for conciege service quite cheap.

At first they wanted a month's deposit... then as we got to know each other, it became 2 weeks. At signing it dropped to 200. The last renter was also an engineer and stayed for 11 years. I can see doing that.

Really love the kitchen! Very secure very quiet place in Otay Mesa. Walked across the border, minutes involved both directions on saturday night.

I need help buying applinances and furniture....

Would be interested in second-hand but clean furniture too; like bed, desk, kitchen table; nothing fancy, expensive or heavy; laminated plywood is fine.

I didn't remember this thread, sorry!

So to complete the story. My landlord took me out on my 1st day in (and his day off from work in SD) on wed.

First we hit costco. I bought a microwave, flatware, etc.

Then we went to Commerical Mexical (since they we're open @ 9 AM) and I bought a stove, fridge, etc... right down to a broom. What we couldn't put in his 4-cyl rice burner car was delivered by noon (the stove, fridge)... that was $35. for delivery.

It obviously has been just over a month now and I am almost done.

I am buying things not available in MX (rigid fiberglass mounted on plywood and covered in color burlap) for killing the echo of the concrete walls and tile floors.... horse pads for the floor (3/4" tires ground to dust, and glued back together in 4x6' @ 100 lbs a piece) for the same effect.

customs has not been an issue. If I got a revision (red) light, what are they going to say about 400 pounds of rubber?

As I said <I think> in another thread the largest challage was CableMAS. They we're tough to deal with since no service had ever been delivered to that building. My lack of Spanish didn't help.

The bottom line was they we're there and installed (TV and Internet) in less than 72 hours, as opposed to the 6 weeks promised.

Bringing over household goods seems to be best done in the evening rush hour. Returning with 4 wheels? Go about 5 or 8-9 P weekdays (Otay) or go for 4 AM. It took me almost 40 minutes to return with the rental van on a early friday morning. My insurance is with Visa who does offer International as the primary, however I miminize my time/and milage to dropping off and getting gas.

I don't think I ever want to return via the large crossing downtown ever again.

note to renters..

I know TJ 4 rent keeps pimping his mansion.. but I heard that there was a problem with a back water bill that ran in the 30,000 dollar range.

If you are going to continue TJ 4 rent, you should at least put it all out there on the table...

I also believe you are involved with a woman who works in the adult entertainment business and has friends that drop by that are in teh biz as well. you should also put that out there on teh table.

If I have you confused with someone else, please let me know and I will retract my statements...thanks.

I think you should at least have one person who has been damaged to have just reason to post a Renters Beware Post Don't you?

Yes I have a Mansion

Yes the house owes a back water bill of over $60,000 usd that will probably never be paid! I have hot and cold water in each of the 7 bathrooms sinks and in the 5 showers.

What does my water bill have to do with anything? And how is my water bill your business? or anyone else's business for that matter?

Do I have a lady friend who works in the adult business and entertains clients at my house? I wont even reply to this childish remark.

Do I even know you?

Or more important, Do you even know me?

Why don't you present one example of someone who has been damaged by me before you attempt to insult my honor

I would be happy to offer my services as a tour guide to anyone who wants to rent large houses or mansions.

I know where there is a 5 bedroom 4 bath house with 2 car garage and secure yard with beautiful wood floors and integrated kitchen, bathrooms and closets 3 blocks from the beach (playas de tj) for only $900

or

a 5 bedroom 6 bath house with 2 jacuzzis fully integrated kitchen, bathrooms, closets, 2 fire places only 2 blocks from the beach (rosarito)

or

how about a 4 bedroom 2 bath house with secure parking 18 blocks from the border crossing at san ysidro for only $500

or...... well I can go on and on. You get the idea.

I charge $20 per hour for tour guide and translation services if anyone is interested
