I use Cable internet thru cablemas. 26 bux a month for 192 kbps. Than I use lingo (e.g. vonage) as an internet phone and that runs 35 bux a month. The phone includes all of the u.s. and mexico and has a san diego area code. So, for 60 bux a month, I have internet and telephone. Works for me.

DSL is around 28 dollars a month the service is good but the connection is noticably slower than US DSL connections.

I have Telnor; forget the exact speeds buy like 54Megs.
With phone, it costs about $100 a month for the first two months ( you buy the modem) then about $40; I'll check the bills and get back.

These prices for Telnor are all over the place. Just went to Telnor office in Plaza Rio, and it's 34 for 512 and I believe 100 for 1M, then goes to like it really shoots up? Are you guys signing up for service at different places? Maybe they charge more at Plaza Rio. Anyways, I'm still waiting for my internet

Yes! Telnor is a puzzle; everytime you go there you get a different story, prices, billing etc. etc.
Suggest you go to the main office on Pio Pico and just sign up.
About $100 for the first 2 months and then $35-40 after that and it is fast; well it says 54Mkps.............???

Did you put the green Telnor sign in the window on the date they said the guy would be there, so he can find your apartment?

I made an accident of putting it on the door first but my neighbor corrected my problem after the second day. I will go back to the office today and inquire about it. Also does anyone have any experience with the new AXEL service either phone or DSL?

Ryu:
When the Telnor guy does come, I suggest you coax him into a new outside line from the roof or wherever the main box is and he should replace the old box inside your window if old.

Thanks, all just got my phone line yesterday. Will try to get DSL today, considering the cost, I think it might be more wise to use Cablemas for internet if you're going to be using a VoIP like I am. Phone and Internet is going to run me like 35+15=50 + 35 (Voip) = 85 big ones. Well, you live and learn at least now I can dial anywhere in TJ for free. Local calls are free right?

Ryu,

I do not understand why you are paying for a phone line as well as VOIP. Lingo covers all of the U.S. and Mexico. I call residences...cell phones...the whole nine yards for the 35 bux a month. No need to have a landline phone as well IMO, unless you expect to receive a lot of calls from a local.

Anyone tell me more re VOIP and Telnor????? Please, Please!
Tried VOIP 5 years ago on Ricochet in San Diego and the delay was terrible.
Got a phone with Telnor but my Forrest Gump roomie can't seem to pay the whole bill...........just the internet part (thank God?) Looking for new place needless to say.

100 local calls are free with Telnor; cell phone calls are 20 cents a minute I think; US calls are 50 cents a minute for sure to Kansas City anyway; I know, the phone used to work..........when the bill was paid....

Gotta' laugh at life sometimes.........

May have made a mistake; the 54M I said earlier was my Linksys connection I think; I have the 512 Telnor and seems fast enough except sometimes on Sundays here too.

Anyone help more with VOIP and Telnor??? Please...

This is the only problem. You cannot call cell phones out of credit. For this problem, I bought a cheap cell phone for 200 pesos and 100 pesos of airtime for a moviestar phone. Since I don't use it that much, the 100 pesos lasts a long time. I just use it mostly to text message other mexican phones and occaisonally call a cell phone without credit.

I know they say that it takes 3 to 4 days for your activation to start with DSL but can people who already have it confirm how long it REALLY took to get connected after you activated. I heard from AXEL I think that once you got the modem, connection was instanteous, well almost. The three to four day thing I'm hoping is just extra time they say so customers don't bother them right away. I ask because I need my internet ASAP for my business. Please people, tell me it only took a few hours or a day from when you ordered to when you were able to connect.

JD, I had to get the landline to get DSL, I wasn't interested in Cable from everything I've read here and other places. It cost more but I think service might be better.

SDC, wait until I blow you away with my 51.2 kbs laugh.gif

Ryu;
wish I could tell you; believe it is pretty much plug and play with the Telnor 2 wire 512; after a week of waiting for my roomie Forrest Gump to play with it after the Telnor guy was here, I started to ask him how it was going; looked at the box diagram and asked him why he didn't connect the modem yet (he thought the Linksys router would handle everything?)

"You need to connect the modem!" Answer: "I never had a modem before"

"Well you have one now; hook it up idiot!" And it worked fine right away.

I am usually a very toerant guy; but I don't handle stupidity very well.

here a nice report, someone just called my apartment in spanish, at first I thought it was to solicit long distance so I said I already use long distance using VoIP then hung up. They called me again so I said I didn't speak spanish very well, they please wait in spanish, waited about 2 minutes and this girl who spoke english came online said can I help you. We talked for a little bit and then she said, oh the guy called to tell me my internet was avaliable now. Wow, now that's service which I can appreciate, I don't think SBC would ever do that.

Anyways, Ryu is now ONLINE, no more AMPM, woohoo!!!!!
Current speed 401/104 D and U. Not what I signed up for  but after not having internet for awhile, I can live with it.
