It seems American viewers cannot get enough of crime in Mexico. CNN just did another special on crime in Rosarito.

Pretty sensationalist, interspersing images of spring break with corpses, etc. Interesting how they are reporting on fear based on misconception while generating it. Seems like job security. I wonder if he told the girls at the beach he was interviewing all his crime stories before asking them if they wanted to stay in Rosarito. That seemed very staged.
I've been to la playa in Rosarito a few times recently and found it nice and quiet, maybe more so with no other gringos around. I love going to Rosarito, it is a beautiful town and has a lot to enjoy, nice drive on the toll road too.

I live here and crime is under reported if anything.
If you want to know the truth ask your priest or pastor, they get the pleas for prayers.
The kidnappings continue right now as I type,
If you don't want to recognize the fact that crime is rampant here in Mexico.
Well that's OK. I have always admired positive thinkers, but this is not the time or the place.
But I am going to give my opinion which I have been holding back, watching the posts.
I have noticed that the people who seem to say there is no crime have something to gain by tourists or gringo dollars,
1. Real estate, salesman, developers, or just owners
2. Hotel owners
3. Restaurant owners
4. Politician that really is a business man
5.etc...........$$$ from tourists
Well I think we have done ourselves a very large disservice by.
1.Whistling in the wind (sometimes called hiding our gringo head in the sand),if I didn't see it Ill tell everyone it's OK so it must be OK right
2.Blame it on the cartels, by the way if they legalize drugs criminals will still be criminals just something different.
3.Turning a blind eye on corruption at ANY LEVEL,example paying a small bribe on the street, laughing and saying that's how it is.
What the disservice is now we have a very large battle ahead and we really do have crime out of control,
The government that hasn't done anything about it, Yet
Houses that at one time worth 350K, you now have to sell to a Mexican that can't cross, and most them know you can build a 1500 to 1800 sq ft house for under 55k
Now the economy is really suffering
The boarder crossing looks like its going to get longer,
The excuse is looking for guns, and drug money.
It has more to do with the 17% import tax now that the economy is in the toilet
The guns will cross the way they always have, small pieces, or bribe to custom official($500.00-1200.00per truck)

The truth will get rid of the crime.
Lying may get you a sale today but long term look what we have. Crime and Fewer tourists.

DaveinTJ,
Do you live in TJ or Rosarito?
I for one have no problems walking around Rosarito by myself from place to place and have not seen incidents out sorts."yeah my friend had her car broken into happens all the time in the states" In matter of fact I even bar hop from bar to bar via walking and have yet to have a problem.
I guess I don't understand what dangers lurk in the wild west of Rosarito but I for one will continue life as usual and continue to tell people that they can come and enjoy a trip here with little worries as long as they keep their nose clean
Had a great time at the little circus here last Thursday and followed it up with a Lucha Libre match on Saturday across from the rodeo grounds here in Rosarito. If any of you attended I was the tall drunk gringo

'Nuff said. I think you get my picture. Wouldn't dream of changing anything, especially where I live now.

Gotta ask the most logical follow-up question - if you are so convinced that it is much safer in the US and that is a big concern for you, why are you living in MX?

Sometimes we need to take a step back and look at ourselves. Maybe we don't have good neighbors because of something we are doing. I find the people in my community are all nice and would feel safe having them watch my place when I am gone. They have done that several times for me and nothing has ever been missing.

I live in Rosarito and go out at nite all the time.. El Torito , El Rancho, Vinces, Casa Blanco, Rosarito Beach hotel, hell almost any and every resturant or bar in town just depends on the night and I even walk dont drive so its about as safe a place for me as anywhere else I guess.
Sounds like you live in a place that makes you feel unsafe. You should move...

I lived in the Golden Hills area of San Diego some years back and got hit by 3 00 buck pellets when the rival gang did a drive by on the guy standing out front of a 7/11
The point of the conversation was is it safe in Rosarito not TJ we all know what goes on in TJ it has been that way for decades and isnt going to change anytime soon and as cheap as rents are down here why wouldnt you live in a gated community?
Rosarito is as safe as 50% of San Diego
