OK...my wife has finally agreed to let me and my songet a dish satelite for the TV.....stop laughing......Does anyone know of American (English) Satelite TV service here in Tijuana???

If you have a valid address in the United States, order the service and give the US address as the 'installation address'. Set up an appointment with the installer. When the installer arrives let them know that you don't need an installation just the dish, receivers, cables, etc. Most likely they will accomodate you and be happy since they don't have to do the installation and can 'take a break' for the duration of the expected installation time.

No guarantee though, they could refuse.

There are not authorized resellers of Dish Network or DirectTV in TJ. Your only option is SKY. Unless things have recently changed, there is NO high definition service on Sky, and signal quality is very good. Mixture of Spanish and English programming so if you don't care abour high definition Sky may be an option. Readily available and can be installed at your home in TJ.

Anyone who tells you otherwise is getting the equipment from the United States and reselling it in TJ. Dish Network and DirectTV do not service Mexico.

I just got these two advertisements out of the Baja Times. One is for satellite, local and pay per view for $50 a month/ comes with a warranty, the number is a Mexico number: 661 612 1365.

The next is for dish satellite: Mexico numbers: 664 687 1935, 664 635 2414, or cell of 664 117 0026 or in the U.S. 619) 407 7262 and an email of: gutmor@direcway.com

If you're willing to kiss off Dish TV and Direc TV, I would try FTA satellite. You won't get premium channels but you'll get just about everything you need for free. You'll get as many English speaking channels as want and the best thing is you don't pay any monthly fee.

I have 2 left hands and 10 thumbs but I was able to install my satellite TV system by myself using a compass, basic tools and help from a satellite locating website which will give you the azimuth and cardinal directions of the satellites you are interested in.

A basic system with some bells and whistles will cost you under 300 clams.

I would really like to try FTA, but everything I'm finding does not seem to help me in finding equipment, general info and whatnot. I tried to find info on those sites, but I could not wade through the tech noise. How do I get it, does it work well, and can you get a DVR with it? Feel free to PM...

Well...there is a way to get premium channels, etc with fta...google "fta"...or search this forum...some of us have posted some interesting info...

No just joking i am quite familiar with FTA it is perfectly legal until you load the bin files on the reciever with a usb stick to open the channels up and yes you will get everything wide open on fta Sport movies PPV Pr0n and even full HD these systems do require you to upload a bin on the unit once or twice a month but the hardest part is aiming the dish if your a n00b you can get a motorized dish and you can aim it at any satellite from the comfort of your couch with the receivers remote for direct you will need a dual lnb and aim the dish for 2 diff satellite 110 and 119 here is a link for the equipment lots of info here if you have questions PM me.

I am having a guy install a Direct TV Satelite at my Zona Rio apt. this Saturday. I saw his ad in either El Mexicano or Frontera. I can not get cable at my apt so I have to go with Satelite. I have never had Satelite TV before so I am very interested in learning more about it once I get it. This guy will install it for you and even sign you up for the 2 year contract. I did not want to give him my credit card or soc# so I was hesitant. He offers a Direct TV and Dish without a contract as well. I am going to rent a Direct TV Satelite for 6 months for $50 a month for a total of $300 and he will set it up for free. I figure in 6 months I will either just rent it another 6 months, do a 2 year contract or try my hand at FTA. The only thing with 6 month rental is that you can not order movies or ppv events if that is important to you. He told me it is 150 channels so it must be the Direct TV choice plan.

If the guy does a good job then I will give his info here next week. He does speak english.

I now have Direct TV 150 channels plus HBO and Cinemax for $300 bucks for 6 months with no contract to sign. They guy did a good job. If you want his name and number let me know. He does Dish as well.

You may want to consider sharing it with a neighbor and cut your cost in half; maybe even more neigbors and you'll make money...

I pay my neighbor for internet; simple wireless card ($25) for PC. Seems to be quite common here.

I think that would make sense if you did a contract with Direct TV or Dish since you can get more recievers. I choose not to do a contract and just do six months. I only have one tv and I do not know my neighbors yet also not sure if they care about Amercian TV since 99% of the dish's on the roof are Sky.

I hope one my neighbors has wireless internet so I can get on the internet. I really do not want to get a phone line and do dial up. I was thinking of just living without internet on the weekends and if needed just go to a coffe shop use their wifi.

I have Mexican SKY satellite TV. All the channels I want in English. Fox sports, ESPN, NFL Network, and other sports channels, about 8 movie channels, Fox news, CNN International, Bloomberg News, History Channel, Biography, National Geographic, etc. All with the basic service. Lots more available at xtra charge including 3 porn channels.

I use a simple indoor antenna to pick up San Diego ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, FOX. My roof antenna picks up all the LA stations.

How much is Sky for basic service and do you have to sign a contract for xx amount of months? Thanks.

We got Sky even though its in Zacatces. Only 30.00 a month and we get lots of stations. english and spanish. I love it when I go there at least I am not bored to death watching 3 stations all in spanish and junk. We can add any package we want and its only 10 more a month. Know its not in Tijuana but I like the service and price

Anyway I did not see this thread, but I have DirectTV and the Tijuana office is in the plaza near Pueblo Amigo. I pay $70, have all the movie channels and pick up the other sports packages each year...NFL, Espn Full Court, MLB, etc.

I do not like Dish, Direct TV had better channels.
