Craigslist is next to useless for renting in TJ. The best way to find a place ASAP is by driving through the neighborhoods and looking for signs... If you have a TelCel or Nextel you are in business. It really shouldn't take more than a day or two to find a place... if it takes longer, I know of a place in Centro that rents small one bedroom (furnished) for about $70 USD per week... It's located on 6th st. about 1/2 block east of Cristobal Colon. Not an IDEAL location, but it would serve for a cheap temporary base of operations...
If I still lived in TJ, I would offer to drive you around... sorry.

If you have some time contact a Rental agent in Rosarito, if you don't have to travel back and forth all the time to the US then that might be a good option for you. Let them know your budget and have them work for you.

Don't sweat it like some of us have. It's good advice to rent a hotel room. Try the downtown area first and buy a good map to get oriented about the colonias. Even if your Spanish wasn't too good, you could still find something in a short time. I know of a huge lot with a small house and a spectacular view for $300 near downtown. I'd take it if I wasn't sick of moving and my needing a larger space. There are plenty of cheaper places one can easily hunt for.
So many places, from garbage to gold.... Think of it as an adventure !

The house donwtown sounds GREAT!!! What area exactly is it in?? "Centro"??
I am for sure going to be there the beginning of JULY and am starting to get scared again, becaiuse I still dont have any leads... I dont want to spend all my money on a motel.. although I remeeber someone did mention a weekly place that was cheap.. I will have to go back and look it up...
