Very interesting.

Friends in Ensenada consider Tijuana a dangerous city.

It seems most of the problems here involve car break-ins and police shake-downs.

I would like to know who was polled. How could so many people believe they could be kidnapped? I mean they only go after people that can pay $1,000,000 or more in US $$$. I suppose someone could make a mistake, but I think kidnapping is not a legitimate fear of most.

Today seems to be very violent in Tijuana. Like most things here, there are a lot of rumors, and in a few days we should know the truth, or at least the story the local government wants us to know.

Look at these two questions:

At some time have you been assaulted?

Yes No
Mexicali 26% 74%
Tijuana 20% 80%
Ensenada 25% 75%
Tecate 24% 76%
Rosarito 20% 80%

At some time has your house or car been robbed?

Yes No
Mexicali 63% 37%
Tijuana 15% 85%
Ensenada 65% 35%
Tecate 60% 40%
Rosarito 23% 77%

Not many of the polled people have been assaulted themselves or had their house or cars robbed, yet they feel so unsafe. I am not trying to say Tijuana is not dangerous, but the %'s are sure hard to believe.

Did they only poll 2nd graders or mentally challenged people?

Public perception and capturing it correctly via polling can be a very tricky and fickle thing based on how the questions are presented and the latest news from the days events. I have learned that you can read too much into them at times...

How many shootouts in the streets this week? How many dead? Methinks the perception now is worse than before.

My significant other, who has always played down the violence, was within hearing range of a battle yesterday. She heard the gunfire and saw the children running from a school. Even she is taking it seriously now.

how many will die in comming month?

no body knows since value of life in mexico is tied to who you work for..

as long as the goverment is keeping pressure to take down drug cartels and other gangs, all the ppl on both sides can be killed in any time.

I’m sick of it. Because TJ has been on the front page of the Union Tribune all week, people at work keep telling me "why don't you just move back to San Diego Miguel, it's not safe where you live". I appreciate their concern, but I'm not moving anytime soon.

It’s one thing if narcos, heisters and police are getting killed, but reading about innocent by-standers and kids getting killed, that is f*cking pathetic and infuriating.

People tell me the same thing but I haven't been the victim of any crimes since moving down here. The Tijuana news is covering the La Mesa shooting now and it looks like a bad scene.

There are mass shootings on both sides of the border. On the Mexican side it usually drug related. On the US side it usually some crazy kid in a school.

I try to stay away from drugs and schools. Very often they are in the same place.

It's so fucking sad! sad.gif

It is sad. The silver lining is that bad guys were caught in a show of force that definitely made an impression on those maggots who have operated as if they were above the law. It will probably take many more events such as this to make any lasting impact...

i understand chiquito attitude of media making bigger deal than what it was..

i understand a crazy kid or persons shooting innocient ppl in schools or shopping malls posted by blue jeans.

the bottom line is

US do not need baja norte much as baja norte need US.

all these in fighting is hurting local business, toyrism, real easte, ect..

no world is perfect and every place have a crazy persons that cause harm to other ppl.

mayors and gov of baja norte is doing this for the future good of its land.

many lives will be lost on both side and hope the good side wins...its a never garantee will of ppl will over come evil of society but these leaders have balls to risk their life do so..

Problem as I see it is that there is a demand for drugs north of the border, a supply of drugs and a culture of corruption going very high up south of the border.

Legalize, regulate and tax them. The violence of the traficantes would go away. The druggies may beat each other up. Cheap drugs for all! Yay!

Maybe not. Quien sabe.

Maybe you pay primium prices. I SURE DON'T. I may have smoked a bit when I was a kid but that's been at least 40 years ago. SO WE DON"T.

Hugs not drugs smile.gif

Most of the people I know that live in Tijuana feel safe but when it comes to theft they say it is out of control.

I know a bunch of people that have had their car stolen this year. All in secure lots with security.
Tijuana is much more than Revolution ave
