This is one of my favorite places to eat in TJ. It is located in Plaza Fiesta which is right across the street from the Plaza Rio shopping center. They make these Hungarian sausages that are to die for. This is a casual bar and they have a DJ and great music from 70's rock to Spanish Rock they play it all. They have drink specials during happy hour which I beleive is between 4 to 7 and the place is jumping with beautiful women as well.

This is there website
http://www.sotanosuizo.com.mx/
They are located at
Av. Paseo de los Héroes 9415 Zona del Río, Tijuana B.C.
Tel. 684 88 34 Fax. 684 75 48

They make killer margaritas and also have draft beers as well.

A couple of thoughts I would add about Sotano Suisso:

The filet steak with "5 peppers sauce" is a winner on the menu, as is the club sandwich, and the cold meat platter appetizer.

The staff there is very professional and helpful, and I have never felt uncomfortable, as can be the case in the more "touristy" Avenida Revolucion area. The clientele tends to be a younger, upscale group who come after work to unwind, have dinner, and so forth.

There is a very liberal happy hour, as well as a lady's night and drink specials on other nights.
Mucho gusto!

A few more notes:

It is happy hour daily from 5pm to 7pm (during big sporting events they sometimes limit the happy hour). 2 x 1 drinks - I did NOT say ALL drinks smile.gif

There is a coupon on their website for 10% off food purchases. You may think, "they will never take that coupon" but I can assure you that they do. I have used it over 20 times. I think I am the ONLY person that has used the coupon. http://www.sotanosuizo.com/cupon.html

Mostly everything on the menu is great. The best items are the steaks. They are imported from the US, taste great, and are very reasonably priced.

All 4 of the filets are fantastic for about $11, Rib Eye for a few bucks more, and the Viking Steak is a huge slab of meat for 2-3 people. Basically a rib eye that is served like a roast.

Combine the happy hour, the coupon, the steaks and a great sporting event, and you will have an excellent time.

I ate here yesterday. I always try to make it for happy hour and I missed the first round by 10 minutes sad.gif
We ate the Souzo Dogs and for the second round I was able to split the 2x1 between me and my girlfriend as we didn't want to drink too much.
The total bill was 24 dollars and they were still offering 11x1 for a conversion rate so we made out pretty good.

This place kicks ass. It's as close to a college bar than I can think of in TJ. Although whenever I've gone, they've always been playing KROQ type alternative music which is the main reason I go to begin with. My favorite time to go is just when happy hour starts to spend a lazy, tipsy afternoon outside.

I was wondering why no one posted about this place but found this old thread. I was dragged here by a friend who lives next door and I love this place. The food, music and drinks are the best in TJ. When the bill came I couldn't beleive my eyes. We spent hours here even bought some ladies a few drinks and the bill was under 70 dollars. Heck I spent that just in parking and door fees in the Gaslamp!

This is a great bar/grill to hit over there. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the bartenders don't go trying to push beer after beer. (JEJEJEJE Some places when you aren't looking, they swipe your half-finished beer. That doesn't happen at Sotano Suizo or in most of Plaza Fiesta.)

Been here a few times. I got the fajitas last time and they were good. It is about time to go back. I would never be able to make it to a happy hour which is too bad.

Santano Suizo (Swiss Cellar) is excellent for German/European type food. Very inexpensive for the quality and no funny games with your bill.

Now that it was mentioned, it is like a college bar, much like the Ratzshkellar near Northwestern U and Gino's in Chicago except for all the peanut shells on the floor.

Long time since I have been, getting hungry thinking about it!

Don't know if anyone mentioned it yet, but one of the great items on the menu is the big hot dog "Salchicha", hmmm, trying to remember what they call it, "Sotano Dog"(?). I like the spicy version of it.

Yum! yeah, I've read nothing but good reviews of this place, even from other places on the Net. I still haven't tried it but I need to get over there and stop stalling. Especially since I adore German and European food, probably stemming from my Czech ancestry! I used to enjoy Swiss food when I used to frequent Wisconsin.

So I went around 3pm on Sunday. Place was empty except for maybe 5 other people. I had two Tecate Lights (34 pesos each) and the regular hot dog (I think it was 79 pesos). First time I tried the hot dog very different but good. The owner was in there or at least I think it was the owner old guy with a beard speaking English and fluent Spanish. Total cost was 154 pesos.

Swiss-Wisconsin? Never knew or put Swiss as a name in the Wisconsin parts I have been to. With names like New Berlin, New Amsterdam and some Swedish names, I never knew about the Swiss there til I read a Wiki article; Swiss seem to be more in the western part of the state.

Anyway, ever been to Road America, Elkhart Lake??? Ooooh! The good old days of Can-Am! And the resorts we sneaked into? hehe. Ahhh!!! Swedish farm girls... like who cares if they smell a bit........

Czech, eh? I couldn't go there... 5K Zone you know... So I just stood there with my trusty D-handled shovel and my 45 and my 13 5-ton dump trucks loaded with expolsives (C4, Am...Nit, petn, det cord and other stuff) and watched the Russian T-88's roll over the hills and across the bridges that were our targets to blow. Oh, well...

Hey! We did get to the German/Czech border before the Russians tho... (Which somehow still surprises me as everything (people too) were in Vietnam, like sh** I only had one D-8 dozer! And only one grader and only one front loader too.) [Yes, I was depraved by the Army. (Gees! I needed them to build fusbal fields in villages to endear myself to the locals so they would introduce me to their daugthers!)]

Put a flower on Dubjeck's grave for me and for the Prague Spring.

Oh, and get me a ticket to Pilsen too...

Walking thru Plaza Fiesta Saturday night and this place was closed. Not sure why maybe for Easter weekend.

Around 9:30pm Saturday night I walked out of a bar about 5-10 minutes away from Plaza Fiesta. I was waiting to walk across Sanchez Tob. and some guy walks up to me and in fluent English asks me where I am going. I immediatley go on edge and just say I am going to Plaza Fiesta. He says he will walk with me. I say no that is ok I know the way. He gets a little offended and says he is policia and takes his coat off to show me his uniform. He works at Plaza Fiesta. We start talking and walking to Plaza Fiesta. He tells me how white I look and I should be really careful in the bars. He says be careful which chicas you talk to in the bar and only approach ones that are in large groups. He says there are alot of bad guys that hang out there and you do not want to hit up on one of their girls. I asked him where he was from and he said Sonora but spent a good part of his life in San Fern valley. He said he got mixed up in dealing drugs and was eventually deported. He seemed happy that he found a second life as a cop in TJ. Not sure how he passed the strict background check to become a cop rolleyes.gif
